The Porsche 996 is the fifth generation of the Porsche 911. it is the first water-cooled 911. It was built from 1997 to 2005, and very often. Almost 300,000 examples of the 996 type were delivered worldwide. One can therefore speak of a successful model.
Among die-hard Porsche fans, the Porsche 996 had a hard time at the beginning. One has to keep in mind that the continuity in design is also a burden. Every slightest change in a model change is judged very critically. The designers have to be very careful and not make too many changes. In the Porsche 996, not only was there a change from air cooling to water cooling, but the headlights were also changed - the so-called "mirror eggs". But this did not change the success of the 996.
Quite the opposite - more and more people appreciate the independent details on this model. And the 996 offers yet another advantage: on the one hand, it is relatively analogue to drive, i.e. it is very attractive to drive. On the other hand, it offers the necessary features for comfort and safety. A very suitable modern classic for everyday use.
There are several reasons for buying a Porsche 996. One is the price. Every Porsche 911 goes through a process, i.e. prices initially fall, then bottom out and start to rise. Special models and limited editions are of course excluded here. The Porsche 996 bottomed out in the 2010s. In recent years, prices have risen steadily.
There are several reasons for the price increase. The supply is becoming less, because on the one hand vehicles are falling out due to accidents. On the other hand, more and more 996s are finding a permanent home with enthusiasts who naturally invest time and money. If a sale does take place, this is reflected in a higher selling price. Cheap, i.e. unkempt examples can still be found. But these are becoming fewer and fewer.
Another reason is the increasing demand. Many of the teenagers of the time who could not afford the 996 are now getting to an age where it is financially possible. What could be better than fulfilling one's childhood dream? For these reasons, it is likely that the trend will continue. Anyone who wants to buy a Porsche 996 should start looking now. Otherwise, in a few years you will wonder how prices could have soared so much. It's like everywhere else: you shouldn't chase trends, but recognise them in time.
