The first generation Porsche 997 was technically very close to the facelift of its predecessor, the Porsche 996. The 996 has a reputation for having a poor engine. However, to put it briefly, this is an exaggeration. The same applies to the engines of the first generation of the Porsche 997. They are by no means as bad as their reputation seems to suggest. And even with the facelift, engine damage can occur. So the decision should be based on looks alone. The first generation of the 997 looks more original, the facelift much more modern. The engine is generally more powerful with the Facelift. But even with the smallest engine, i.e. the 3.6 litre in the Carrera with 325 hp, you are very well equipped. Whether you should buy the 997 as a first generation or a facelift depends solely on your personal taste.

For the maximum fresh air fans, the 997 is of course also available as a convertible. For those who find the convertible too open, there is also a Targa, just like the 996. If you need plenty of power, you should look for a 997 Turbo. Wide, fast and still equipped with a Mezger engine, the 997 Turbo is appealing and sought after. However, this is also reflected in the price. Bargains can certainly no longer be made on the 997 Turbo. On the contrary, you have to look very carefully if you are looking for a used Porsche 997 Turbo. This has nothing to do with the price, because even expensive offers can turn out to be a disaster. If you like it classic, a 997 Carrera 2 is a very good choice. Here, the typical side line of the Porsche 911 comes into its own particularly well. In addition, the Carrera 2 is the lightest of the 997 series, which means an absolute plus in sportiness. The 997 Carrera GTS is a mixture of Turbo and Carrera: a classic body shape, widened and equipped with the most powerful naturally aspirated engine of the 997 generation. The Porsche 997 GTS is probably the most sought-after Porsche from this model series. Prices on the market are already correspondingly high.
